Generating Documents

Clove does more than answer in chat — it can produce polished, downloadable Word documents and PowerPoint presentations directly from a conversation. This is useful when the end product of your work is a deliverable: a report, a memo, an analysis, or a slide deck.

Word Documents​

Ask Clove to write something as a document — for example, "Turn this analysis into a formatted report" or "Draft a project memo based on the notes above." Clove generates the document and shows a live preview inside the chat.

  • While Clove is still writing, the preview header shows a Generating... indicator.
  • The preview renders the document with its real formatting — headings, paragraphs, lists, and tables — so you can see the result take shape as it streams.
  • When it is finished, use the Download control on the preview to save a .docx file.

The downloaded file is a standard Word document. You can open and edit it in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, or any compatible editor.

Following Your Template​

Word documents Clove generates follow the document template configured in your settings — your chosen fonts, heading styles, colors, alignment, and other formatting. This keeps generated documents consistent with your organization's style without you having to reformat anything.

If you have not set up a template, Clove uses sensible defaults. To create or customize your template, see Template Configurations.

PowerPoint Presentations​

Ask Clove to build a presentation — for example, "Create a slide deck summarizing these findings." Clove generates a .pptx presentation and shows a slide-by-slide preview in the chat, with thumbnails for each slide.

When the presentation is ready, use the Download control to save the .pptx file. It opens in Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, or LibreOffice Impress.

Exporting Tables​

When a response includes a table, you can export it on its own without saving the whole message. Use the table's export action to download it as:

  • CSV — for import into other tools.
  • Excel (.xlsx) — a formatted spreadsheet you can open directly in Microsoft Excel.

Diagrams​

Clove renders diagrams (such as Mermaid flowcharts and sequence diagrams) inline in its responses, and you can download an individual diagram as an image. For more on rich content in chat, see Chat Features.

Tips​

  • Ask for the format you want. Being explicit — "as a Word document" or "as a slide deck" — tells Clove to generate a downloadable file rather than a plain chat reply.
  • Set your template first. Configure your document template once in Settings and every generated Word document will match your preferred styling.
  • Iterate before you download. The preview updates as you refine your request, so you can adjust the content in chat before saving the final file.
